
The Village of Forest View, a community of approximately 792 residents located in Cook County near Harlem Avenue and I-55, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. The Fire Chief is appointed by the Village President with approval of the Village Board and is responsible for overseeing all operations of the Forest View Fire Department, including emergency response, fire prevention, training programs, and administrative functions.
Position Overview
This leadership role requires experience in firefighting and public safety administration to ensure the department is prepared for emergencies while effectively managing personnel, equipment, and resources and will also serves as a key representative of the department to the community, local government, and partner emergency agencies, promoting collaboration and effective public safety service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and managing fire department personnel and daily operations
- Coordinate emergency response and disaster management activities
- Develop and implement fire prevention and safety programs
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal fire regulations
- Conduct performance evaluations and oversee training programs
- Prepare and manage the department budget and resources
- Maintain and oversee firefighting equipment and facilities
- Investigate fire incidents and prepare reports
- Build partnerships with other emergency services and organizations
- Engage in community outreach and fire safety education initiatives
- Provide reports to Village leadership regarding departmental performance and incidents
Minimum Requirements
- 10 years of fire service experience, including 5 years in a leadership role
- OSFM Advanced Fire Officer or Fire Officer II Certification
- NIMS 300 and 400 Command and General Staff Training
- Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or associate’s degree in Fire science or Emergency Management.
- OSFM Chief Fire Officer Certification
- Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic License
- Ability to test into Loyola EMS System
Desired Capabilities
- Ability to respond to calls and perform the emergency management trade in the field.
- Demonstrates expert skills in navigating the complexities of diverse roles, including relationship building and fostering mutual trust.
- Well-versed in all aspects of fire and rescue, including suppression, operations, and prevention, along with the technology that supports these functions.
- Proficient in budget development and management, policy formulation, and implementation, as well as personnel management and growth.
- A hands-on leader who is personable and accessible, maintaining a keen awareness of everyday operations.
- A strategic problem solver.
- An outstanding and effective communicator, adept in one-on-one interactions, small group settings, and public speaking.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with potential annual increases based on performance as determined by the Village Board.
