Community Partnerships Build Success
The Forest View Police Department is committed to building and fostering partnerships with our community. As a department, we share a common perspective with those we serve -- to focus on individuals who compromise the safety and quality of life of our community. The best defense against wrongdoing is the community working with their police department and taking an aggressive stand by reporting any negative influences or criminal activities they suspect or witness that are happening. The strength of our department’s crime prevention strategies and our community-oriented initiatives begins with residents who are active in their neighborhoods, and with the Forest View Police Department.
By having the honor of being selected as Chief of Police, I bring to you a community oriented philosophy that will reinforce our commitment to building successful programs through, and with our children, schools, seniors, and business partners. In order to be successful with our community programs and initiatives, we encourage and support the exchange of information with our residents, and school and business associates in order to coordinate further activities and to promote community prevention and awareness programs.
To highlight our commitment to engage the Forest View community, we just put in place our new Senior SAFE and Autism Awareness Programs that will assist our senior residents and those with special needs to provide our department with critical information to assist those in need of police or medical assistance. With these new programs now being offered to our community, I would encourage those who need special assistance to complete the registration forms which will be available at the police department and on our village website.
As a department, we would like to thank all those who are committed to community growth and outreach as we continue to remain interactive with our residents to persistently build positive relationships between the police department and our community. We look forward to building and implementing more successful community based programs with you. The Forest View Police Department is committed, and will continue to remain a community-oriented police agency that is receptive and sensitive to our residents, the business community, and visitors to our great village.
Thank you,
Jim Ritz
Chief of Police

Senior S.A.F.E Program
The Forest View Police Department would like to introduce to our community, the Senior S.A.F.E (Senior Awareness For Everyone) program that will assist our senior residents. The Village deeply values those who are less fortunate and do not have family or friends to check in on their well-being on a regular basis.
We are adopting this program which allows the police department to document critical information to assist those in need of police or medical assistance. When Forest View police personnel are notified and respond to check on a senior’s well-being and receive no answer or response we are committed to making contact and communication with the resident. If all contact means are exhausted forced entry may have to be made into the residence.
By filling out the Senior S.A.F.E. contact form, that includes emergency contact information and telephone numbers, the assigned police officers will attempt contact with those listed on the form in order to determine the best possible response to the situation presented. It is important to list any emergency information in the event the senior is ill or having a medical emergency and must be transported to the hospital for care. In this type of situation, those listed as emergency contacts can be immediately notified and can provide any current medical history or vital medical information which can assist emergency or hospital personnel.
The S.A.F.E program is designed for senior citizens who are age 60 and older, and for any village resident who is physically challenged or disabled. The Forest View Police Department encourages those who need special assistance to complete the form to participate in the program. Contact forms will be available at the Forest View Police Department, the Village Website, the Forest View Senior Center, and at the Village Hall.
Please contact the Forest View Police Department at 708-788-0318 if you have any questions about the Senior S.A.F.E.program, or if you would like to register or know of someone who is a candidate for this program. Participation is on a voluntary basis and all information is totally confidential with the police department.
Thank you for your interest in the Senior S.A.F.E program.

Autism Awareness Program
The Forest View Police Department is starting a new initiative to assist individuals with autism who are experiencing a difficult situation. Autism is a bio-neurological developmental disability that generally appears before the age of 3. As you will see from the fact sheet below just how many people are affected by autism spectrum disorder.
Participation in the program is voluntary and families or caregivers of those with autism can register with the Forest View Police Department to inform our telecommunications center of the person’s special needs. When responding to a call involving an individual with special needs our officers will be better prepared knowing that someone will need special assistance.
Our department will utilize additional resources and training to help support those dealing with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Working with, and handling calls for service with those facing mental health issues is a top priority within our department and this outstanding program will enhance our specialized training to further recognize the signs of autism and effective ways to approach a person with autism spectrum involvement.
Families who sign up for the program will be provided “Autism Notice” decals to display on their windows or doors, or in their cars, to advise everyone that “A person may not respond to verbal direction – Thank you for your kindness, support, and patience.” The puzzle pieces are a widely used and recognized symbol for autism awareness. The “Autism Notice” symbol alerts responding officers that someone in the household will need special assistance.
Autistic individuals can sometimes appear as a person who is combative or non-compliant. Other challenges presented with autism spectrum disorder can also include touch sensitivity, or sensitivity to textures.
Our new program allows family members an opportunity to provide valuable information related to any special medical assistance or interactions that might assist the individual. For example, what triggers the person, what might calm the person down, or what hobbies the person partakes in. Any, and all information we have will tremendously assist our responding officers to effectively interact with the person without scaring them or escalating emotions at the scene.
Our department goal is to provide caring assistance to the individual and such critical information will improve our responses.
We strongly encourage families with special assistance family members to register with the Forest View Police Department so we can provide our officers with critical information on interacting with individuals during these crisis calls for service. The more information we have the likelier the interactions will have more positive outcomes.
As a department, we place a high priority on de-escalating emotions during crisis calls. The Forest View Police Department is very proud to work with our community in adopting this incredibly valuable program to assist those with special needs through difficult times.
Please contact our police department and we can provide you with a registration form through email, fax, or in-person pick up or delivery.
We look forward to working with our community in starting this truly outstanding program.
